Painting a sea horse and part of a jelly fish

The girls were at the table…

Mr. R. was in the shower so he could have more freedom because on the table it’s harder to reach and to see his work. DSCF7745He painted the seahorse and thought he could be the seahorse and them decided to paint the shower walls as well loll. DSCF7746

The girls were already done by then because they were up from their nap before      Mr.,R. so I had more time to watch him having fun! He kept saying “WOW” being so proud of himself Smile DSCF7750

Don’t worry I was expecting a mess, it’s what it’s all about and it’s all washable so they is no worries.

Some little treasures found at the library to go with our theme.

This one is so interesting. It doesn’t have any words so the children can read it on their own and figure out the story by looking at the illustrations. I love it!

Around the world

We wanted to have a trip around the world so we made our own passport to start the journey.DSCF7645

Because I had found a few books about China we stopped there first. We made a panda with a bamboo stick and read the legend about how the panda got those black patches on his fur.

We listen some Chinese music and watched a dragon dance video. Of course we made our very own dragon dance with blankets and wigs for the head and tails. It was a lot of fun. The kids keep surprising me but that day they started to sing the Chinese song along with Chinese words! I am not saying they are saying it right but just to see them enjoying it was great. We mad a poppet dragon craft as well which added to the theme. The children made some beautiful fireworks painting and one of them decided to add some Chinese sign to it as well.

Since we already were in Asia(I happened to have a magazine with Korean craft in it)the week after we stopped in Korea.

Second flag in our passport.

We made these coasters.

We watched a video about Korean fan dance and made those fans to have our own dance.

Above are some Korean paper doll puppets. It was a lot of cutting for me but they glued the pieces on their own and were able to play with after which makes the work worth it!

The pre-scholars were able to point to china and Korea when we were talking about it. I know they are not going to remember everything but they are more aware of other cultures, language, countries. We looked at book like “houses around the world” and “children around the world” and they were amazed to see the difference and to learn that some people lives in boxes or don’t have any houses at all.

We also ate Kimbap for lunch which is the Korean version of sushi. I made them without the Nori and put ham, cucumber and carrots in it. They all tried but it wasn’t popular with everyone Winking smile

What have we done in November

I have neglected my blog a little lately so I will try to catch up.

One of the kids favourite thing is to build a tent with the couch and blankets. They build at least 1 a day but often it’s 2. They sit in it to read or play but their fun is in to building it and choosing the best where to put it.

Working with our pumpkin pie play dough. Letter shapes and poking it with crayonsDSCF7531DSCF7533

I have cleaned the toddler slide and put it inside for some active play through the winter. It became a castle, a crib and even a dog house through different pretend play scenarios.

We had a few days talking about frogs as well.

Five little speckled frog book and cd to sing along and play.

Some mathematic jumping frogs on play dough Lillie pads.

and a frog pond for some water play.

We also had a “princess week”. Mr. R. was away so we took the opportunity to have a girly theme.

Thanks to our library we had heaps of book to go with our theme.

What shape can you find in a castle?

We made a shape puzzle to glue on a sheet. A few play and lots of dressing up with crowns and jewellery of course. The girls thought it was hilarious that the middle age people didn’t have toilets and threw their waste in the streets.

Thanks to Miss B.’s Mom the girls had lots of dress to choose from.

Toilet paper roll princess…

DSCF7617Still in the princess theme, here are some pretty castles, tower and sculpture made with our favourite material. Unfortunately the spray bottles ended up freezing and were way too messy for the girls to use. Squirt bottles and less food color next time maybe.
